ebeth_msn and anyone else who's run the 10M Parkway Classic

How does this work?

I was looking at the website and it says you should be there at 6AM to catch the bus. This seems a little crazy! That's a full 2 hours before the race starts.

DH and I are running it and planning on parking downtown. I know the last bus leaves at 7AM. If we get there around 615 to park, do you think we'll be ok?

  • My husband dropped me off the year I did it so I'm not sure about the parking. From what I remember though it didn't seem to be a huge deal so I think 6:15 will be fine.  I really liked doing this race, have fun!!

  • I've done the 5K several times and I think you'll be fine if you get there at 6:15.  There's a parking garage you can park in and they'll direct you the few blocks to the busses.  I did have to stand around for a while before the race, but at least at the 5K, there were indoor restrooms, pre-race food (bananas and bagels) and bag check right there, so you could wear warm clothes until a few minutes before the start.  GL!!!
  • The directions on the website are a little excessive.  I think we got there when it told us to and slept in the car for 20 minutes or so.  I wouldn't want to get their too close to 7 cause the lines got a too long for my comfort closer to the race.  It was nice to have a little bit of extra time because the bag drop off took a while.

  • I've only run this race once before and I parked in pentagon city.  I think I got there at about 10 to 6?  there was no line and I got right onto a bus. it did take a bit of time to get to Mt. Vernon on the bus.  maybe 20 minutes?

I was at Mt. Vernon for quite awhile. there weren't many people there when I got there either.  I'll probably plan on arriving in PC closer to 6:30 this time around.  there IS stuff @ Mt Vernon though  heat sheets, coffee, bagels, bananas, coconut water.  so it's not too terrible.  so long as it's not raining. . .

there are like three shuttle locations this year.  I think you'd be fine arriving closer to 6:30. but as is typically the case with these types of things, Ithink the closer you get 'last call' the longer the wait is.
