which order would you do this in?

We need to do the following on our home but I want to do things in the proper order so they don't interfere with one another.  For example, get windows done first before painting as windows may mess up all the paint, etc.

Which order would you suggest:

Landscaping

New windows and doors

New Roof and Solar tubes

New patio

New Paint, exterior

Re: which order would you do this in?

  • Totally agree with PP. You should consider that adding a new roof could damage some landscaping due to the work done, adding new windows might causing damage to a new paint job and require touch ups. Doing them in the order suggested by PP seems to make the most sense so you aren't re-doing work that was just done. Good luck with your reno!
  • I agree, go top (roof) to bottom (landscaping) like SBP said. The roofers we had would have trampled any landscaping we had.

  • We're basically in the same position, except our landscaping is pretty solid.

Definitely roof first - it affects everything else.

The rest of my answer depends on whether you're doing this over the course of a year or several years.  If several years, I would go ahead and paint the house.  That will protect the house and it's relatively inexpensive.  I would probably do the landscaping sooner than later b/c it will take time to grow and become established.

ETA: Do you have any grading issues?  That would be important to address ASAP and a good thing to do along w/landscaping.
