san antonio living recs

So my friend (I mentioned who is going through COT to be a social worker) thinks she is going to be stationed at Lackland in San Antonio.

I lived in San Antonio for grad school, but more around the medical center area, and I am really more familiar with the Randolph side of town.

She was asking me for recommendations for good places to live on that side of town, and I am not familiar with the area. I do know that there are some newer neighborhoods around Sea World? IIRC.

Does anyone have any other good suggestions for her?

  • We lived in Alamo Heights for 4 years.  Loved it.  Of course, that's Fort Sam area as opposed to Lackland, but it's a really nice part of town.

  • Sea World area is pretty nice. I want to say Culebra rd (or its Callahan, i always get them mixed up), its not to far from Sea World, I know of some nice areas around there. If they are willing to make a little bit more of a drive they can find some great places off Bandera or in Helotes. Most anything off Marbach road (or somewhat around it) I wouldn't suggest, its pretty close to base but not worth it in my opinion. If y'all want to know about specific areas let me know... I've been in San Antonio about 13 years.
