I've heard a lot about this and today my local NPR had a guy who's running Boston barefoot and the director of the Spaulding National Running Center on. They make a great case. I'm an on-again-off-again runner because I've always had trouble with both knees and I'm thinking of trying it out. Does anyone do this? Thoughts? Pros? Cons?
Re: Barefoot Running?
I started the journey at the beginning of February when the shin splint that I was feeling in my right leg got to be almost unbearable (again). Here is a link to the barefoot-specific posts in my blog: http://sunshinenwine.blogspot.com/search/label/barefoot
Also, check on the following forums for really great advice and support: http://thebarefootrunners.org/forums/barefoot-minimalist-running.8/
http://www.runnersworld.com/community/forums/runner-communities/barefoot-running (I like this one because it's a combo of BOTH minimalist and barefoot).
I also ordered the "Complete Idiot's Guide to Barefoot Running" from the library and read through that. It will take several months to get yourself ready to actually run barefoot, so start toughening up your soles now by ditching your shoes around the house and on surfaces around your house. Also start working on calf stretching and strength. If you aren't already doing yoga, it's a great complement to being barefoot.
Page me if you have any questions - I probably can't answer them but should be able to start pointing you in the right direction.
