Pre-workout breakfast ideas?

I just started back with my trainer after a C-section, and my old pre-workout breakfast isn't cutting it. I've always eaten an Ezekiel English muffin with a bit of coconut oil and natural PB, and sometimes a banana, about 90 minutes before my session. But lately, I am ravenous halfway through.

Any ideas for a more substantial breakfast? I had the same result with oatmeal. I prefer to eat clean, and for my trainer's sake, I avoid dairy before my workout. :)

Re: Pre-workout breakfast ideas?

  • Hmm, I need the oatmeal and an apple with pb before a long/ hard morning workout. Maybe not eating SO far in advance, more like 45-60 minutes before?

  • I have a hard time eating much before workouts. I tend to get cramps. But Morning Star veggie sausages are one of the few things that I've had success with. It's also a great boost of protein. Might be something worth trying to help keep you full all the way through.

  • I eat a big bowl of oats cooked in soy milk. Then I stir in a heaping spoon of almond butter and top with fruit. It's the only think that doesn't leave me hungry mid workout.

  • Could you add a few egg whites or an egg in for a boost of protein?  Or maybe just double up on the English muffin and eat another one or half of one?
