Counter Depth refrigerator?
Anyone have any suggestions for a good counter depth refrigerator? DH really wants once one that has a freezer drawer as opposed to side by side but I'm open to either. Also, it can't be super wide because the fridge nook isn't huge. I believe the fridge in the model home (we are buying a new build) is 30.8 x 35.4 x 71 inches. Also, if anyone has feedback on Whirlpool Gold vs Kitchen Aid for the other appliances it would be appreciated (we can pick between the two through the builder but Kitchen Aid would be an added cost). I'm leaning towards Whirlpool Gold.

Re: Counter Depth refrigerator?
I have a Kitchen Aid counter depth french door fridge. It's 3.5 years old, so I don't remember the model number. It's on the small side -- had to be, we only had 68 or 69 inches of space for the height. The only down to it, aside from the lower capacity that's just part of a counter depth fridge, is that the water line is really thin, and it froze. Even when it worked, it was a pretty useless trickle. We have a Brita filter on the kitchen sink faucet though so it has never really bothered me.
I really like the french door style much better than side by side. (My mom's SBS drives me crazy.)
I know of only one person to buy the Whirlpool counter depth refrig. She had it less than 6 months.
It was just too small (and it is small it is like 24 cu. ft) and they are a family of 2.
It tended to make puddles, from leaks.
She was happy to have it replaced in the end and get a larger refrig.
The Kitchenaid is not much bigger if any, the down side is it is around 8 grand. If you need storage you will want to make sure to have your builder place another hook-up for a second refrig. in your lower level or garage. If you have children this is a necessity.
PS --another thought I had a friend who solved the storage issue by putting refrig drawers in her island and just a free standing freezer in the garage.
Congrat. on your new home.
Does it have to be counter depth? We just bought a kenmore elite small french door that's still 25 cu ft, but it's only 33" wide.

My cousin has this one, and while they've never complained about it, I think the lack of storage space is really, really obnoxious. My side by side has way more storage space than their fridge, and is much easier to keep organized. I'm also not really a fan of the french doors - I like the look of them, but not the utility.
I'd probably look into one with out ice and water on the door because it takes up so much room in what is already a small fridge.

we've had it for 2 years and no problems whatsoever. it was one of the largest counter depth french door refrigerators we could find at the time.
If you are building, can you just make the fridge nook extra deep so that a regular-depth fridge is even with the counters?
It kind of boggles my mind that all new houses wouldn't be designed like that.
We have the same fridge, but have had it less than a year. We really like it.
Because sometimes that's what works for your situation. We needed to work within the existing footprint of the kitchen. If the fridge stuck out much beyond the counter, we would not have been able to open the dishwasher, or (heaven forbid) would have had to do without a dishwasher.
I like french door better than side by side. My mom has a side by side and nothing fits in it. The amount it holds would be fine, but because of the configuration it makes it difficult to get to anything or to fit things like large platters/pizza boxes/whatever.. French door fridges at least allow you to put something wide inside.
I like counter depth too. They may not be as large, but DH and I were discussing getting one as our next fridge, since we lose things in the back of the fridge and mainly just utilize the same amount of space (or less), as cd frige anyway.
