Fake Instyler?

I bought an Instyler from Groupon Goods and just received it yesterday. I'm not so sure it's real. My co-worker has one, and she pointed out to me that the box doesn't say "InStyler"TM, like hers does, it says "Rolling Styler"TM. The bottom of the box says it's distributed by Tre Milano, which is the legit company according to the Instyler website, and I found an article online about the company it came from, Emson, being licensed to sell the Instyler, but wouldn't the box say Instyler if it was one? Also, the bristles look like this:

Not this, like it looks like on the real website:

I'm not paying $60 for a fake when I can get a real one for $80.

Re: Fake Instyler?

  • Save your receipts. Can you call the company (prob on Monday) and give them the SKU to see?

I have an Instyler and it doesn't look like that. Did they advertise it as an Instyler?

  • Yeah, it said InStyler several times in the groupon info.

I just tried calling Instyler customer service and they're closed until Monday. I was really hoping to try it out this weekend, but I don't want to take it out of the box if I'm going to return it. But then again, it could work just as well as the real one, if it is a fake, and how would I know if I haven't tried it?

    Where did it come from?

If it's fake, it absolutely won't be as good as a real one, they're made in China very cheaply. It could start a fire when you plug it in. Maybe not the first time, but who knows when. Or how long it will even work for.

Google counterfeit Instyler, I bet you'll find some blog or message board where someone posted the difference.

  • I bought my Instyler on ebay and love it. The person claimed they were legit InStylers and they have cosmetic damage so they weren't being sold in the usual way. I'm think my mom and aunt bought theirs off of amazon. I don't like them nearly as much. They don't have as much heft and don't start twirling as soon as you clamp. I'm not sure if its a legit or knock off issue or just a vary by manufacturing site issue.
  • IT IS FAKE!!!  I also got one ...from Groupon.  I just received it yesterday.  Mine is the same brand as yours, "Rolling Styler TM".  I have never seen a real Instyler up close but I did open this ones box, and let me tell you it is a piece of garbage.  The Instyler is supposed to be ceramic and tourlamine.  The barrel on this looks like plastic.  The Instyler has digital temperature controls....this piece of garbage has a dial.  Sorry...I am so mad right now that I spent $59 on a piece of junk fake.  I have not called Groupon yet I wanted to do some research first and find out if others have received fakes as well...obviously they have.

Yours is fake too. LOL at the seller's "reason". Why don't you see what Instyler says about that. Or, see if that seller is still even selling on ebay- or if they've been suspended yet. I wouldn't trust that knockoff chinese sh*t, I really wouldn't.
  • The Instyler from the infomercials are made in China too.
