How do you clean your DW?

I have never thought I would have to ask such a seemingly oxymoronic question, but here I am asking. My DW needs a little cleaning. It's older than dirt and I cannot wait to get a replacement from this century. Until then, I'm stuck with this one. What's the best way to go about it, you think?

Re: How do you clean your DW?

  • I would dump a cup or so of white vinegar in and run it empty. I did this not too long ago to our ancient POS washing machine and it worked like a charm! (I did have to scrub some softener residue off after it was done, then I ran it again with just water)

  • I don't do it often but if I feel like it needs to be cleaned I just put some detergent in and run it empty.

Seems easy enough. I have it running now with some vinegar. Hopefully, my own POS model responds as well as yours. Thanks!

  • Fill a glass with vinegar and set it upright in the top rack. Run it empty with the glass inside...

  • I put a couple of packets of lemon cool aid in the soap dispenser and run an empty load.
  • We've tried a few different products and methods through the years, but recently I bought a dishwasher cleaner made by Finish, and it worked the best by far.
  • Our dishwasher is old and crappy (we live in a rental) so we monthly run clr through it. I tried vinegar and baking soda first but our water is too hard.

  • We did vinegar first, but then bought some Lemishine dishwasher cleaner. I thought it worked better. I think now I could clean it with just vinegar, but the intial nasty was just too much for plain vinegar.

Also, look for a removable filter, sometimes the whole spinner at the bottom comes out - my old one did and it was pretty nasty to clean. My current ancient dishwasher doesn't have a removable filter and I think that is why it gets so nasty.
