We have a newly renovated bathroom, done by a top of the line contractor. It has subway tile. 2 months after completion, there are small cracks in the grout. This happened with our last bathroom remodel in another home, another contractor. The cracks are very small but I'm concerned they could get bigger. Theres two now under 1/2 inch in corner and near a tile. Should I be concerned about this? I don't want water to seep in behind the tile. Is this due to normal settlement? Should I add caulking or grout over those tiny areas?
Eta: I cannot call this contractor for advice or to come back, long story.
Re: Shower tile grout cracks
Ours did that. It's normal settlement. There's a special kind of grout/caulk you can use to patch those little cracks. Can't remember what it's called but I got some at Lowe's for our wall tile. I just explained what was happening and they were able to help me.
I haven't put the caulk stuff on yet, though, so I can't speak to how well it works.
Where did you hear that? When it's still wet is sags or after it's dry?
OP you should be OK but try to cover them with caulk or a patching kit of some kind to keep the cracks from spreading. Cementitious grout is porous so there should be a continuous waterproofing barrier behind it (often behind the cement board).
