Dog's Nails Clipped, now Ragged

I took my dog to PetSmart this morning to have his nails trimmed. We were about 1-2 weeks overdue :( I requested that they grind them, but when they called me back in she said they couldn't do them. They had to trim/clip them because he tried to bite. The biting thing is unusual because he's been there 2-3 times before to have them done and never had an issue.

They are really ragged looking now, with a couple of frayed/slightly split ends. I'm really worried they will split farther and bother him. Any suggestions? This is the 2nd time they've clipped instead of ground the nails and I wasn't pleased the first time. We won't go back there for that :(

Re: Dog's Nails Clipped, now Ragged

  • Go to back to petsmart or another pet store in the grooming section and get a nail file.  I had to get one for my pup's nails for the same reason (we trim at home).
  • I've used one of my emery boards in a pinch--but the 4 way buffing blocks are easier (just use the coarsest side) until you can get a real file for a dog.
