who has seen the hunger games? (possible spoilers)

my husband and i went on a little date friday night, which was really nice. i took a little nap when i got home from work so i could stay awake during the 9:10 movie!

anyway, i liked the movie, but the book was better. i think i liked the book better because of all the details that are clearly impossible to include to in the movie (all of them, at least). particularly, i was surprised that the cave part with peeta & katnis was so downplayed. i felt that was a big part of their relationship building but it was so minimized in the movie.

on the other hand, my husband didn't read the book but enjoyed the movie. so i think that speaks for itself, every audience being able to enjoy the movie and making it more watchable and understandable by everyone. he had to ask me about a hundred million questions during the movie (so typical) and i had to just start ignoring him at one point!

what did you think?

Re: who has seen the hunger games? (possible spoilers)

  • Haven't seen the movie yet. I told H he should read the book first. So we bought the trilogy since the wait for the books at the library was ridiculous. He's now on Mockingjay while I've only read the 1st. We'll get there eventually.
  • I liked it. I was annoyed with how they left out all of the apothacary stuff during the games. I think  that was a huge part of the books. Books are always better in terms of internal dialogue and such so I never except that to carry over into the movie as well.

I jumped like crazy when that dogs came!

  • Yes!!! I jumped in my seat too! Scuuured the crap out of me!

  • I read the books first so of course I liked them more, but I did like the movie a lot. I tend to forget the details in books so by the time I see the movie I'm not upset that they left it out.

Case in point - I had no idea what apothecary stuff you were talking about. Had to google it - now I remember, but I'd forgotten all about that!

I did think they left a bit off of Peeta giving Katniss the bread. They didn't show that he really intentionally gave it to her and took a beating for it. I asked my H who hadn't read the books if he understood that part and he hadn't really gotten it.

I'm definitely excited for the rest of the movies to come out!

  • I thought overall for a book to movie it was really good. I thought the book lended itself well to be a movie script. I thought they made Peeta kinda look like a wuss more than he was though, which disappointed me b/c I'm totally Team Peeta in the books. ;)

I agree that sometimes it's been so long since I've read the books (I read them when Clara was a newborn while I was nursing 24/7) that I forget the little details as well so I'm not as upset when they leave them out. I re-read HP6 right before the movie came out (like I seriously had the book w/ me in the theater reading the last 2 pages, DH said I looked like a nut) and I was pissed at everything they left out or changed, haha.
