what kind do you recommend?

 

my husband was recently in the hospital and on a venilator for two months and may be coming home at the end of this month and I would like to get air purifiers for the house.

I lived very close to The World Trade Center during (and after) 9/11.  I got Honeywell Air Purifiers afterward and I think (hope) it helped a lot.  It was the purifier that they were giving away to those who were in the closest neighborhoods.  Also check out what Consumer Reports rate the most recent purifiers.

Honeywell 17000 in my two bedrooms, and Honeywell 18000? in large living room/foyer area keeps our condo pretty free of pollution and cat dander.  Bonus that they have "lifetime" HEPA filters that don't need to be thrown out and replaced, just vacuumed with a HEPA filter.

It is okay, but it is noisy.

We recently got a Rabbit Air one for our living room and I like it much better.  It is this one: http://www.rabbitair.com/minusa2-ultra-quiet-hepa-air-purifier.aspx

It is really, really quiet and seems to work really well.  And it is much smaller than the Whirlpool one.  It is the one that my allergist has in his office, which I take as a good sign.
