Dining Room Tables

We had our house painted this week and now I feel like I need to take this place seriously!  We have a very open 2 story, with the first floor being a front room (living room/dining room) that is visible from the front door and the back room is the family room, breakfast area, kitchen, and back entry/laundry/powder room area.  As soon as you walk in our front door, our dining table is visible.

What do you keep on your dining room table?  I don't mean a decorative centerpiece- what protects your table?  I did a deep cleaning this weekend, now that the painters are done, and I have noticed several scratches.  Should I buy those pads that are the specific size of the table or just use a table cloth?

FWIW- We have probably used it for a meal 5 times since we moved in 2 years ago!

Re: Dining Room Tables

  • If I had that layout I would probably do a glass top cut to the same specs as the table.
  • I don't keep anything on it normally.  Sometimes a tablecloth but that's it.

  • Just a table runner. I think I'd do a tablecloth before having a pad cut for it. Just seems kinda oldladyish, kwim?

I know!  One of my closest friends at work is about 12 years older than me, and she couldn't believe that we didn't order a pad when we bought our dining room furniture.  I didn't think people bought those anymore!

Also, I just noticed that the side ad is all about keeping a dining room table looking great- funny!

  • We have a white dining table and I have a thick white fabric tablecloth that I use only for protection from my cat-zilla and his claws (table's in front of the front window) I remove it before using the table and before guests come over (usually).... obvs we don't use it ALL the time, or that would be annoying
