So who here has tried the Asian BB Creams?

What do you think compared to the American versions?

Re: So who here has tried the Asian BB Creams?

  • I just got the Missha one this weekend.  I tried the Garnier one last weekend

    Garnier:

-left my skin shiny/dewy (I kind of liked this even though I have combination skin)

    -provided light coverage

-strong fragrance (didn't mind it though)

-felt moisterizing enough to go without my normal moisterizer

    Missha

    -matte finish

    -provided light/medicum coverage

-did not seem very moisterizing, my skin felt tacky and it was hard to apply  concealor and foundation over it

I used both as primers for my normal foundation (I have some melasma discolorations, but no acne).  I haven't tried the Missha alone (without foundation over it yet).  We had company this weekend and I didn't think it provided enough coverage to go without foundation.

  • ::stepping out of lurkdom::

I've tried the Smashbox in light, and purchased a Missha #21 sample set recently and have tried their Gold, Diamond, and Pearl BB creams. I haven't tried the M signature yet; I probably won't wear makeup again until Friday (I'm a grad student and don't put on makeup when I'm taking data all day).

The Missha creams are more beige-y, but they all blend in very well. I haven't had any issues with breakouts or irritation, but with the Pearl and Diamond creams my face....tickles until it's soaked in. It isn't an itch per se, but it's enough to notice.

I've read several blog reviews of Asian vs. American, and was expecting the coverage to be better from the Missha, but I found them equal with the Smashbox. The biggest difference is that with the Smashbox cream, I can apply moisturizer before the bb cream ( I have very very dry skin) and the bb cream still soaks in and covers well. With the Missha creams I've tried so far, they don't blend as well with moisturizer, and they aren't moisturizing enough solo. So, all in all, the Smashbox is my personal favorite...

  • I have skin79 VIP Gold, Skin79 Absolute Total BB Cream and the Missha Perfect Cover in #21 and 23.

I have also tried the Smashbox, Too Faced, Dior, and Origins BB Creams.

I have said this before and will say it again, the Asian ones and Western ones are just NOT the same. My experience with the Western ones are that they are pretty much tinted moisturizers.

I have had a handful of people try the Asian brands and they all love them..myself included...except I am tan now and can't wear them.

I like a couple of the American ones (Origins and Dior seem to be ok), but haven't used them enough to know how much I like them...but enough to know they are completely different and way more like regular TMs than the Asian ones I have tried.

The best way I can describe the asian brands is that they really are more like a "cream"...they sink into the skin and therefore work on many skin tones. I was even able to use them when tan, but now that I'm even darker, I have stopped for now. The Asian brands seem almost impossible to leave a "line" of color because they absorb into your skin so it's almost like not wearing anything, but make your skin look flawless. The American ones can definitely leave a line and are a different consistency. I may wear a few of those as well in time, I just don't think they are comparable.

I just Googled and found this online:

There's a BIG difference in formula and function between the original Korean/Asian BB creams and the newer Western brand ones. The Asian BB creams generally contain better skincare ingredients and provide better coverage, whereas most Western BB creams are nothing more than glorified tinted moisturisers. Accordingly, BB cream devotees tend to use "true" Korean BB creams, and people who have only tried Western formulas end up disappointed. There are some exceptions with more Asia-centric creams released by Western brands, such as Bobbi Brown.

  • I'm using The Face Shop BB cream (Korean brand) and I like it.  I found that I still need to use primer for my face to control the oil (after moisturizing and before the BB cream).  I find the overall look from the BB cream is that it gives a flawless complexion.  It's hard to explain because I can still see one old pimple mark (I use concealor on it after the bb cream), but it blows away the coverage that I get from regular foundation.  I am a convert.  Once I finish my current supply of foundation, I'm only using bb cream from now on.
