Re: Plank Challenge Week 1!

  • 1:46, elbows and toes.  I'd love to get upto 4 min, but I'd be happy with 3.

  • I'd like to join in on this. Which is considered harder, elbows/toes or hands/toes?

  • When we did this last summer I had gotten up to 3 minutes. I doubt I can do that again in my current state, but I would love to see what I can do today.

Elbows & Toes always ends up hurting my shoulders before my abs give up. Guess that means I need to strengthen my hsoulders too?

  • I think elbow are easier--my wrists tend to hurt if I'm up on my hands.  I also want to start comparing my ability to do them on the floor vs. on a stability ball.

  • Ooh, I want to do this!  I will post my time when I have a chance this afternoon. :)

  • 1 minute 10 seconds.  ETA: Elbows and toes.  I think I could have gone longer, but I selected to do them on the carpet in the living room and I started slipping after about a minute.  I'll try again at the gym today and see if I can go longer on a regular floor surface.

  • 1:48 elbows and toes.

A tip: if you're sliding, then you're most likely not at the right angle with your arms. Make sure your elbows are right under your shoulders.

I said I was slipping, but it may have been the wrong word.  More like I was starting to feel some mild rug burn from the pressure on my forearms.  I think that a yoga mat or regular gym floor surface would have been a better choice.  Either way, I'll try again at the gym this afternoon - with mirrors I'll be able to check my form, as well.

  • Well, I suck. 1:02 elbows/toes. I did it at the end of my run today, so I'm going to try again tomorrow on a non-cardio day, because that is just sad LOL

  • I'd never timed myself before.  I did 3min 13 sec.  And my genius self did it on my hardwood floors.  My forearm felt more than anything else.  I'm interested to see where I can go with this

  • 1:10 with elbows and toes since that seems like what everyone else is doing.  What are you doing to progress for next week?
  • 2:02 hands and toes. I need something to entertain myself, I got bored. Something to take my mind off it would help.

  • I held it for 1:05 on elbows/toes

It would be cool to be able to do it for 3 minutes!

  • I lose. 45 seconds. Elbows and toes. It's a place to start, I guess. Didn't help my dog was licking my hair.

  • 2:00 at the end of my workout- I could have gone a little longer, but was only aiming for 2 min. I did lift my right leg up for 30 sec, then the left for 30 sec, then did standard plank form for the remaining minute.

Planking for long amounts of time is boring, so I'm working towards harder variations for shorter amounts of time.
