America's Test Kitchen membership vs CI vs Cooks Country?

I'm so confused!

If I get an online membership to America's Test Kitchen, that includes the cooking school videos. But does it also include an online membership to Cooks Illustrated, or do I have to pay and join separately?  If so, what are the differences?

Re: America's Test Kitchen membership vs CI vs Cooks Country?

  • I'm 99% sure they are separate subscriptions in the same way the magazines are separate subscriptions.

IMO, CI is more technical than CC. I subscribe to the paper CC magazine and I love it. More easy weeknight cooking, down-home type recipes.

  • I have a membership to CI only and it does not include the cooking school videos (I think those are really pricey? I could be wrong). It is really bizarre to me that everything is so separate. CI does have access to some how-to videos, but those aren't the cooking school.

Something to be aware of - CI auto-renews at the end of the year. There might be a setting in My Account to make this not happen - I'm not sure (their website is all jacked up for me at the moment). I had no idea this was going to happen and to be honest, wasn't all that happy about it auto-renewing with no notice.

ATK sort of has a history of shifty business practices (google and you will notice a lot of people who aren't happy with them).

ETA: I checked around a little bit to see if I could figure out what the difference between and ATK online membership and a CI membership would be - I have no idea. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful!

Thank you SO much. It looks like you saved me tons of headaches. I read around online a bit and won't be ordering anything from CI, CC or ATK. Thanks!

  • Yeah - I'll be honest - if you pick up a couple of years of their mag or even the New Best Recipe book, you've got pretty much their whole repertoire. I've got a number of their books and actually have a full ten years of the mag (someone in my building threw them out in our recycling dumpster a couple of months ago) and the same stuff appears over and over again.
