Runners & Cyclists

How many times a week do you run? How many times a week do you ride (indoor/outdoor)? For how long?

Re: Runners & Cyclists

  • Run: Only if something large is chasing me

Ride: 5 days/week. I average 10-13 hours/week. Distance varies depending on whether or not I mountain bike or road bike. A typical week that I don't race looks like:

Monday: Easy recovery ride, 14-15 miles

    Tuesday: Intervals, 25 mile

    Wed.: Off

    Thursday: Group ride, 25-35 miles

    Friday: Off

Sat.: 3+ hour ride (usually a group ride), which may be 45-65 miles or more. (typical mountain bike distance is 20-30 miles)

    Sunday: Same as Sat.

  • Run - usually 3-4 times a week and anywhere from 2.5-3 miles, though I am working on increasing my distance.

Ride - usually just once a week. I'm fairly new to cycling, and usually only get out there for 5-6 miles, though I'm tring to increase that distance as well.

It's easy for me to fit in runs, because I just go on lunch break at work. I'm a single Mom, so actually getting out there in the evenings or on the weekends to ride is much harder for me.

    Ridley Run 3.1 - 4/9/11 - 34:24 - 1st race evah!
    Kelly Monaghan's 5K - 5/15/11 - 3rd Place in AG
    Walk the Talk 5K - 5/18/11 - 31:12 PR
    Ridley Run 3.1 - 4/14/12 - 1st race of the year, 32:45
  • It really depends on the season, but running I've never been able to sustain injury-free more than 3x/week for any length of time.

I usually ride my bike 2-3x/week.  I would like it to be more, but I'm usually juggling it with running and swimming, and there's a limit on how many hours/week I can workout.  My rides are usually in the 1.5-2.5 hour range each.

  • Run 3-4 times a week

Haven't rode my bike in about a year.  I need to get it out though, I miss riding it.

  • I run every single time I get off the bike.  I try to bike at least 2 days week...lately I have been managing 3 outside and sometimes one more time on the trainer.  I do a long run + 1 jogging stroller run in addition to that.

  • Ditto Sadlebred - I never run on purpose.

Cycling - depends on the season.  I spin before work 3 days a week, and in the summer I ride after work 2-3 x a week, plus Sat & Sun.  A typical ride is 25 miles or more - our long routes are 67 or 78 miles.  We also do short OOT trips to ride various mountain passes (Cottonwood, Independence) on weekends.

  • Thanks for the replies ladies! I'm trying to figure out how many times a week I would like to run with our new dog but don't want to do too much cardio.

Sorry it took awhile to respond, my boss called me in ... I need to practice  teaching a class on the 32count (audition early next week). It would be a promotion that I would like but I'm pretty nervous since I've never had to do that before.

  • I run three times a week:  an interval run, a tempo run and a long run Saturday mornings.  I average between 15 and 20 miles a week.

I'm just starting to bike again and I ride on my trainer twice a week and I do anywhere from 10 to 15 miles each time.
