What do I do with them?

My nieces are staying with us Saturday and Sunday (they're 12 and 15).  The weather forecast right now is calling for rain all weekend, so I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do with them.  I'm thinking maybe bowling and/or indoor rock climbing.  Any other ideas?  I was trying to stay away from the movies if I could.

They're pretty laid back and like hanging out with us because they get the entire upstairs of our house to themselves and we don't care how late they stay up.  Devil

I'm really hoping the weather changes and at least one of the days are decent so we can take our bikes to the trail for bit.

Re: What do I do with them?

  • Bowling sounds great! Do you have a wii or any other video game console? I would do boardgames or silly stuff like that.

  • Bowling would be fun! When I'd go stay with my cousin she'd make us virgin drinks like pina coladas or daquiris and we'd eat junk food, watch girly movies (at home), and paint our nails. I always loved doing stuff like that.

  • I completely forgot we have a PS3!  And the virgin drinks is a fun idea!

    ::makes mental note::

I also just got on the Reading Phillies website (minor league baseball).  They're playing at home this weekend so if the rain clears out we could go to the night game.  The tickets are way cheaper than the Philadelphia Phillies (plus Phllies tix are hard to come by unless it's standing room) and much closer to home.

  • Well, my step daughter is 14, and she likes bowling, roller or ice skating (if you have an indoor rink near you), going to the mall, and getting mani/pedis.  Do you have any go cart places near you?  Those are always fun.  Aquarium?  Museums?

I like pp suggestion about virgin drinks, junk food and girly movies at home too.

Yeah, now that the Phillies are actually good, it's almost impossible to get tickets!  I think the minor league game would be fun, get some junk food and hang out for the afternoon.

  • Wow, everyone has given some pretty great suggestions
*Pinterest has some great mocktail recipes (or you could just Google)
    Here are some others:
    - Baking or cooking something awesomely chocolate-y
    - Go to a pottery place that you either make the pottery or just paint something that's already made
    - Whirlyball (do that have that around you?) or go-karts
    - Paintball (indoor or outdoor)
    - Drop-in Yoga class
    - Visit an animal shelter to play with the pets

I like all of these suggestions. Or if you have a Dave and Busters near you, that may be good for the afternoon. And the rock climbing wall is an awesome idea!

I love this idea. You could always spike your own drink as well! Devil

I was going to suggest an indoor arcade or indoor mini-golf (I don't know how common those are).

Or, depending  on how girly they are, an indoor spa day - manicures/face masks/the fun virgin drinks/and an awesomely bad rom com.

  • I'm not sure where you live, but for us rainy weekends always means going to the zoo.  It's always so hot in Phoenix, and doesn't rain much, so the animals are always out when it does rain, and the clouds are minimal.

  • Thaks for all of the ideas!  We do have a pottery painting place near us, and as much as *I* would love to do it I doubt S would be too thrilled with it.  So I'm trying to find something that we all can do.  There is a mini-golf/go-kart place nearby as well.  So here's to Saturday not being rainy.  It will definitely give me more options!

If you really want to go you could always tell them to paint something as a gift for Mother's Day Wink

That's what I was going to suggest. Creativity and a gift making opportunity!
