We recently moved to a new home that now has a family room and formal living room. The furniture we are using in the family room we plan to move to the living room (it was my in-laws formal living room furniture before they downsized), and purchase new for the family room.
I have honestly never bought furniture, everything we have is pretty much a hand me down. So... what do you think would look good in this room? The house is a colonial, our style is fairly classic, modernized a bit.
I have not been a fan of sectionals in the past, but think maybe that would be good for the room? What about leather vs. fabric? What kind of fabric is good for sofas? I am not a fan of microfiber, so I would like to avoid that. Any inspiration pics? What sort of accent pieces? I am so bad at figuring out how to bring things together.
The first couple pictures are with our stuff. The last is with the sellers stuff (MLS listing pic), but shows a better view of the room.
Re: Furniture ideas for family room?
I might Place a sofa facing the fireplace with a nice console table behind the sofa to provide more interest from the back. Two slipper chairs with a side table between them facing the solid wall (where the TV currently lives,) and one club chair with a side table in the right hand corner.
I would mix upholstery... leather club chair, linen or twill solid sofa, and a pattern for the pair of slipper chairs. A large rug, and a great coffee table could connect the space.
