corner sink?

Does anyone have a corner sink in their kitchen? We are considering moving ours to the corner when we do our kitchen remodel as it will give us an extra cabinet (we can't do a lazy susan/corner cabinet because of where the plumbing is located, so it would just be wasted space if we leave the sink where it is). I'm just wondering if you do have one, do you like it?

Re: corner sink?

  • I hated it at our condo because there was space behind it that was too deep to reach to clean well. We had white tile w white grout and I had to stand on a step stool to scrub it lol.

Other than that it was fine.

  • I hated it at our old house - it felt like a lot of wasted space. I stored my stand mixer behind it, but then had to lift it out (heavy) every time I wanted to use it.

Also, if it's not by a window, you always feel like you're in time-out while you're doing dishes, staring at a corner. ;)

Ha! I never thought about the time out. Ours was by the bar so it opened up to the LR/DR but I can totally see it feeling cramped if there's full walls!

  • LOL at the time out thing! Ours would still be next to the window, and the space in the corner is pretty wasted already. The positive for us with doing it in the corner would be the extra cabinet that we would gain, so that's really what's making me lean towards doing it.

  • My aunt in-law hates her corner sink because of the limited counterspace on either side that is usable.  You can't stack dishes to close to the edges of the countertop because that is where your elbows go when you're at the sink so you only have half the countertop on either side.  She also hates the split bowls (90 deg to each other not in a line) because it's hard to transfer stuff from one side to the other.  There is a window nearby but not directly in front and the corner seems like a dark little whole because all of her lights are behind you when you're at the sink.
  • We wouldn't be doing split bowls, sorry if I wasn't clear in my original post. Ours would look something like this, with the window in basically the same spot as in the picture.

If your kitchen is like that I would definitely remove the upper cabinets in the corner if I was going for a corner sink!  As a 6' person being face to face with a cabinet as I'm doing a task I already dread would drive me batty.  The cabinet would have to go for me.  Personally I think the sink should always be under the window if you have it or out on the island.  I would splurge a little on a nice hinged pull out storage solution for the corner cabinet so that it's more useful for us (I've never really like lazy susans either).  I think resale value wise it's best to keep the sink under the window.  But that's just my opinion.

  • I have a corner sink and I hate it with a fiery passion.  Like the picture you posted, the sink is not directly under a window (although a window is nearby) and the whole time I use the sink I stare at a wall.  The space behind is hard to reach to clean and it's pretty much unusable.  But the biggest thing, is really staring at that wall, it's depressing.  We are hoping to redo our kitchen soon and moving the sink was the first thing on my list! Sorry!  I know that isn't the answer you were looking for!

That's ok! This is all very helpful. This is one of the things that I am worried about. The only thing is that our window will actually be a little closer than the one in that picture. I am taking into account everything that people have said, and then I think what we will do is kind of "map" it out on our current counters to get a feel for it and see what we think.

  • Ours is! It was set up that way when we moved in. It's not do bad Bc I have two windows to look out. I keep my fruit bowl behind it. It's not my ideal location but it works for this house
