groundcover/invasives ?

I'm thinking about planting some blue star creeper (seems to have a range of latin names): http://www.rainyside.com/plant_gallery/perennials/Pratia_pedunculata.html

I've seen warnings on a few sites that it can become garden invasive and "over take smaller plants". Does that mean plants smaller than itself or small plants in general? Do you think I'm safe planting it in a bed with hosta, hellebore and bleeding heart (dicentra spectabilis)? It's a pretty confined bed, concrete on two sides, with a rock wall behind it.

How pretty is this?

Re: groundcover/invasives ?

  • Very pretty! I worked in a garden that had this and we just made sure to pull it away from the crown of other plants in the spring. It was very easy to remove where you didn't want it.

I have fever few in my garden which goes to seed every where. I wouldn't recommend the plant to someone who doesn't want to bother with weeding but for me I just pull it out where I don't want it.

  • Yeah, I've decided to put some lades mantle out back even though I know it's asking for trouble. It's such a pretty plant I can't help it.

Thanks for the advice! I've been reluctant to put a ground cover in this spot because of the bleeding heart and peonies. They're probably pretty tough, but they just look so delicate. This groundcover would be a perfect compliment, looks-wise.

  • I love ladies mantle, just make sure to cut back the spent blossoms before they go to seed and you will never have a problem with them.
