Hey gals, I know some of you have started using Milk of Magnesia to prevent oiliness with great results, so I decided to give it a shot.
The first day I used it (last week), I did a little combo of mostly MOM mixed with a little water. It seemed to work, I only really had to blot once that day, and I didn't need to touch up powder or anything. I did it a few more times last week, and it was the same, but not nearly as great of results as I expected given the raves I was hearing. I was expecting some serious oil prevention, and while it certainly helped and allowed my makeup to look more fresh, it was in no way a miracle worker.
Today I decided to up the ante and do just MOM with no water, hoping that would take care of the residual oiliness I was still getting, and I ended up having to blot TWICE throughout the day, which is what I was doing prior to MOM. My makeup still seems to hold up better than without MOM, so I can see myself continuing use just because of that, but it doesn't provide the oil prevention I was hoping for.
So what gives?
I've been applying MOM after using toner, and before serum/moisturizer/primer. Should I be applying it AFTER moisturizing? I feel like that would then negate the moisturizer by drying it all up. I know for sure I need to use moisturizer though, so idk...any ideas?
Re: M.O.M. Am I doing it wrong??
I'm pretty sure it must be that you are applying moisturizer on top of it. The MOM will just soak up that moisture. I have combination skin, and really don't need a moisturizer in my t-zone. What I do is moisturize only my cheeks and around my mouth, which are the only areas that ever get any dryness. I never, ever get dry in my t-zone, which is where I need the shine control. In the t-zone, I apply MOM directly to freshly washed skin with nothing under it. Then I apply my BB right on top of it. For me, the MOM really is amazing and keeps the oil completely away for about 10 hours.
If you have issues with shine, I think you should cut back on the number of products you are using. Can you put serum and moisturizer only on the drier parts of your face?
