Stainless steal pots and pans
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I am doing my wedding registry and registering for stainless steal pots and pans, what type of utensils should I register for...silicone, stainless steal, plastic, or wood? Thanks for the input.
Re: Stainless steal pots and pans
I actually use a pretty wide variety of utensils.
Tongs - register for metal and silicone ended ones.
I have both metal and plastic slotted and unslotted spoons, and I use the plastic ones a whole lot more. The metal ones are nicer looking though, so I use those for serving.
I actually use my wood utensils the most - even though you can't put them in the dishwasher. I'm not sure why but they're the ones that I reach for the most.
I have only plastic flippers. (I always call them spatulas but H works at BB&B and he insists that they're flippers)
I have silicone spatulas of varying sizes. (which I call scrapers, but the BB&B training comes out in H once again and he insists that they're spatulas)
We have a mix of Calphalon and All-Clad tri-ply cookwear - which ever was on employee incentive at the time, and we've been really happy with everything we've purchased.
I would also suggest considering registering for a preseasoned cast iron pan. We use our grill pan quite a bit for grilling aperagus and other veggies, and meats if the weather outside is too bad for girlling out. I cook with cast iron 90% of the time.
I also use our enameled cast iron dutch oven all the time for chili, soups and stews.

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel 13-Piece Cookware Set
For just the 2 of us - I have not yet used: 3-quart covered saute pan, 12" omelette pan and rarely use the 8-quart covered stockpot. Love the 3-quart covered chef's casserole but the handles to get hot.
I also have 2 go-to non-sticks that are also dishwasher safe and are approved for DH to use
You can technically use metal on all of the above. The only metal I use is my fish turner and whisk. Mostly use plastic flippers (Pampered chef are my fav) and silicone spatulas for mixing/scraping and wooden (bamboo) for all else. And yes, love tongs, silicone coated.
And this scoop colandar is one of my newest favs - the one I have is gark grey though, got it at BBB http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=17951998
