Can I ask a bonehead diaper related question?

Still scared of the bump at the moment, but my mind is boggled about something. (Currently researching cloth/disposable diapers).

If you use disposables when you're out and about do you toss the dirty diaper in the trash? At like Target/a restaurant? Or does that stink up the place so you're supposed to put it in your diaper bag somehow?

I am beginning to think in my 2 years of whining about not being pregnant I should have been hanging out with someone that has a baby. I am totally lost.

Re: Can I ask a bonehead diaper related question?

  • My family has always had gallon sized plastic baggies in the diaper bags. Put the stinky diaper in there, tie it up, and take it with you, depending where you are. Restaurant? Take that thing with you. Target or Walmart? Dspose of it.

At least, this is what everyone I know has mainly done, an I did with my cousin when I had her as an infant. And I don't blame you for avoiding the bump. Those women are seriously hormonal jackassesss as a whole

  • I second the ziplocks. It works. :)

  • Never thought of a ziploc! I swear I need to start parenting classes now. I wonder if they'll let me join a mom's group pre-baby.

  • A lot of it will come naturally. You'd be amazed how much is just common sense. I know I don't have my own kid, but I helped raised my cousin for the first 2.5 years of her life (I'd get her for days at a time). No one ever gave me advice or guidance.. except how to burp/gas a new born (rub their tummy in a clockwise or counter clockwise motion) You're going to be a great mom! Don't fret over it too much.. besides, you have a ways to go!
  • You can buy a bag of scented baby disposable bags for like $3 at Babies R Us. Ours lasted her entire diaper time. Yes, just throw it out... If you worry about smell, use what I mentioned or like a target/grocery plastic bag.
  • We have this thing...

They have it at Target and probably Babies R Us too

  • oooo...totally putting those scented bags on my registry when the time comes. You girls are the best!

I'm thinking I'm going to give cloth diapering a whirl, but I'm thinking disposable for out and about. We'll see how it goes!

We do cloth diapers all the time, I thought we would do disposables on trips but if we're going somewhere with a washer I find it easier to stick with the cloth. As for cloth dirties when you're out and about,  we have small wet bags for short trips that get washed with the cloth diapers. You just put the dirty diaper in the bag, zip it up and stash it back in your diaper bag.

Also, if you're considering cloth diapers make sure you get a nice spacious diaper bag. If you want an info on the cloth diapers when the time comes let me know :)

  • We CD 95% of the time too but didn't switch until DD was 6 months, and I wish I had gotten a larger diaper bag as well.

We use disposables at night because I haven't figured out a solution to our heavy wetter/belly sleeper and we'll use them when we go on vacation as well. I am still building my stash to where I'd like it to be, I think I need about 3 or 4 more to feel like I can wash w/o the risk of her running out of diapers if she has a blowout or something, she uses at least one disposable every time we wash now. I really like CD though if you decide that route, and the wet bag is really easy. When we were in disposables I'd mostly just throw it out wherever we were.

  • We use cloth diapers as well and just bring a wetbag with us when we go out.  It is really easy to do.  Also if you are planning to BF then you can just toss disposable diapers wherever because EBF poop doesn't really smell much.
