Help me choose a paint for this family room please! Pip heavy!

Any opinions on what color to paint this family room?  I was initially thinking SW Canvas Tan, but it's just a little too, well, tan.  Would just a light off white neutral look best?

Our sofa and recliner that will be going in there are a microfiber chocolate brown by the way.

It's currently a light green, which I don't like at all, so I'm looking for other options based around the wood floor and fireplace.  Rooms next to it will be a gray tan (dining room) and then a gray blue (kitchen). Also, do you think I should paint the wood beams on the ceiling white or leave them the brown??

None of this is our stuff, it's all the sellers, so ignore any and all furniture/decor.

This is the view from the kitchen/family room doorway.  There is a lot of light in this room.

Fireplace up closer.  Try to ignore the wreath. :)  Also, in the long run, we'll be getting rid of gold fireplace cover.  Not sure what color we'll do, maybe just black?

 Fireplace stone closer.

View looking into the dining room and kitchen.  The kitchen we're painting SW Upward, which is gray blue.  The dining room will either be SW Accessible Beige or SW Agreeable Gray - so basically a neutral gray/tan.  Dining carpet will be replaced as well.

This photo just shows the truest color of the wood floor in family room.

  • I think the prefect greige would look great if you don't like a straight gray.  But I love gray!  We have that wood in our porch, which is gray with ivory drapes and i love it.  I know it's been talked about on this board before, but I'd have to search to find the names of the paint colors...

I think if you replaced the fire cover with a standard rod iron black it would look much better.

  • I've seen on HGTV that you can simple paint those fireplace covers. If the gold is throwing off the rest of your design, you might look into that.
  • I have SW Amazing Gray in my kitchen and hallway. I think it would look nice in your space as well. Check it out. It also looks nice with chocolate brown.

  • I would do something warmer, maybe picking up some of those rust/orange colors in the fireplace. It would make the room feel cozier and also go well with the wood. I would not paint the beams on the ceiling.

  • We just moved into a house with a very similar living room and we painted the ceiling beams white to lighten up the room. If you do it, do it while the room is empty and plan on at least two coats (we used Behr Ultra and two coats did it). I think it looks a lot more modern now.
  • Because of your hardwood floor color, I would recommend that you either do an off white or light gray interior paint. Your family room is beautiful!
