Where do you store photos and temperature sensitive collectibles?

Trying to figure out where to store some things in our next house that cannot go into the attic. If need be there is a storage closet in the basement, but I wondered if I could get a storage shelf like this and put it in the garage?

The garage is not heated or cooled, but there are no windows and the walls are insulated (there is finished living space above and on both sides.)

  • What do you mean by temperature sensitive?  Can't get hot, can't get cold, or ruined by moisture?

A garage is similar to an attic only on the other end of the spectrum.  It can get very cold in the winter and have high levels of humidity in the summer (assuming you'll still be in PA).  Just because the walls are insulated doesn't mean much.  The standard garage door has little to no insulation in it (most are R-3 whereas a 2x4 wall is R-15 to 19) and there is a lot of infiltration around the seal and when the door opens.  It is only a few degrees different than the outside.  That's not to say you can't store things out there but they should be in sealed containers/bags.  Things like comforters, blankets, and pillows can go in those vacuum seal bags or those big ziploc bags before going in a box or tote.  I wouldn't store pictures out there as there is no humidity control.

I'm talking about photos/photo albums, paper collectibles (DH has a large collection of Michael Jordan things, newspapers, magazines, etc.)  These are things I have been told in the past should NOT be stored in an attic because the extremes in temperature can degrade the paper and stuff.
