As part of our renovation we are working on a "big boy" room for our son downstairs. He is currently upstairs across the hall from us. His toys will all be in this room but he won't move down until baby #2 is here or even later as that room now holds crib and toddler bed (we are not ttc yet).
I am considering something similar to Pottery Barn's fort bed. http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/tree-fort-bed/?pkey=dbunk-beds
Does anyone's child have a loft type bed like this? How realistic is it? DH would be making it to house a full size mattress.

Re: Fort bed. Yay or nay?
I can't speak for parents of kids since we don't have any but that is the coolest bed ever! I want one for me and DH!
I was constantly making forts as a kid and to have one as a bed would probably have been one of my best memories ever!
Here are some other versions I like

So many choices.
My DS1 has a loft bed and it is awesome!! He loves it. It is this one:

It has a dresser that fits underneath and tons of other space for storage of toys. The end of the bed is a full bookshelf and the other end is a set of stairs with drawers. It is the best use of space in the world! He loves it. We got it when we was almost 3 and he has never had a problem with it. The stairs were the coolest part because I didn't think he was ready for a ladder at 2 1/2.
Baby Boy loved for 15 weeks, 5/31/11
Baby Girl loved for 16.5 weeks. 3/1/12
We are already potty training so by the time he moves to this bed potty training won't be an issue.
The room would fit a fort bed. DH has made a lot of our furniture. He also has a degree in Engineering and would never design something that could harm our son so support shouldn't be an issue.
I have some decisions to make. Thanks for all the responses!!!!
This seems so much more reasonable in a twin size. Even in a big enough room, I think a giant thing looming overhead might be too much.
That bed is adorable, and something any kid would love. We have this bed for DS

Like pp said, DS wasn't ready for a ladder (he tried at the store and was unsuccessful), so the stairs were the perfect solution. We're talking about storing the trundle for a while, so he can have a little "fort" area in that underneath space.
