Those of you that have fine china...
I really enjoyed the post where people PIPed their dinnerware. So, to those of you that have fine china, when do you use it?
About how many times a month?
If you have young children, do you serve them in the fine china as well?
Is it dishwasher safe?
I love the look of fine china and the idea of using it. But I am not sure if it will be a worthy expense for us.
Thanks
Re: Those of you that have fine china...
our fine china is from my grandmother and grandfather on my fathers side. they're over 100 years old so no=no dishwasher for them. they're a very light beige with a ring of flowers painted around the rim and a gold ring aroudn the rim as well. we dont have kids (YAY) so no answer there. We use some pieces more than others. It's a set for 16 and has like 8 pieces per setting. We have the soup tourine and all of these other serving items that we're really not sure exactly what they are. i keep the tourine out and use it frequently-it's got a lid and is a great size. i also use what we think is an asparagus dish a lot.
dh and i use them sometimes. rarely. I do use the serving pieces a lot though.
My china is dishwasher safe. We generally only use it for holidays or dinner parties (so 5-6 times a year).
I got most of it as wedding gifts and then my MIL filled in the rest for the next few holidays. Even though I love it, I don't think it's something I would have spent my money on.

fwiw=when my parents used their china when i was little I always ate off of it.
Well I have three sets of fine china, all inherited. A Christmas set and white set with gold border from one grandmother and a really large set of china that isn't really so fine that belonged to my great grandmother and was her "fine china".
I just took possession of the Christmas china so I haven't used it yet. I use the other two sets for holidays, whenever we have anyone over for dinner, and birthdays.
I wouldn't put any of mine in the dishwasher because some are hand painted, some 100+ years old, none have ever been in the dishwasher, and we don't have a dishwasher lol.
I happily use the fine china for my 9 yo SD and have as long as I have been a part of her family.

We got hints to not ask for it for our wedding...turns out we are getting a set from H's great aunt that is white with a gold pattern.
It is not dishwasher safe. We don't have kids. We plan to use it for special events or if we ever have my inlaws over as it would mean a lot to them.
I specifically made sure to register for the ones that are dishwasher safe, so yes mine are dishwasher safe.
I've only used it 3 times, two times were when I had my parents and grandparents over for dinner, and one Sunday night I felt like getting fancy for my H. I wish I used it more, its so pretty. No kids here, so I should probably use it more often now while its just the two of us!
We use ours whenever we have company, or I serve a holiday meal.
My boy is too young to eat off plates - right now he just eats off his highchair tray, so that's not an issue.
It's dishwasher safe.
We use them probably six times a year or and definitely keep it away from the kids!
