Best way to prevent lipstick from bleeding?

I guess I'm getting old.  ;)

And I adore red lipstick, but hate that it bleeds.

I'm currently using Smashbox Photo Finish Targeted Pore and Line Primer.  And it's working pretty well...  but I don't like how my lipliners don't want to go on smoothly on top of this product.  But I hate the bleeding.  So I use the Smashbox.

Any suggestions for a better primer to prevent bleeding?

  • I will PM you my answer.  Just kidding.  lol

I've never tried lip primer, but if you use foundation or something similar, just wipe a little bit over your lips, especially all around your natural lip line.  You can use lip liner but I don't find this step to be necessary.  Don't forget to blot after your first application of lipstick.  Then put a barely there coat of lipstick for a second application to get saturated color.

If you want extra insurance, dip your finger in a little powder and tap your lip line after you've put on your lipstick to set it.  Then gently press with a tissue to get rid of the powdery look.

We are spammers!   In light of the board's recent frootloops, this is something we need to take seriously!   ;)

Anyway, back to my critical task at hand.  Thanks for your tips.  My very first job was actually as a makeup artist (and I've done it on and off over the years) and I tried all those layering/blotting tricks.  They worked ok in the beginning, but now that I'm only a few years to 40 my lips are getting picky.  And when I go red, I want things looking flawless, hence my love of lipliner.  I'd just love to find an awesome primer.
