Are Cacti good for a beginner?

Hello! I'm would like some advice on plants for the un-green thumbed person (myself). I have never been able to keep a plant alive until now, my aloe vera. I think it's just luck, but since it is technically a cactus (as far as I know), I'm wondering if I should stick to them for now.

If so, how much light and water should they get?

 Advice?

 Thanks

Re: Are Cacti good for a beginner?

  • My kids each have one. They are 8 and 10, the kids, not the cacti. They put them in a window and mist them once a week with a spray bottle.

    So far, so good.

  • YES! YES! YES! I love my succulants and cacti! I buy the cacti soil and plant away! I only water once a week or if I forget, once every two weeks. We  have ours mostly in pots(Our soil here is really bad)  I buy them mostly at Home Depot and OSH. Enjoy!

  • Agree with Chel650, as long as they are getting some sun it's pretty hard to kill a cactus/succulent.  Just don't over water.
  • Thanks everyone! I'm excited to grow my plant collection. When I graduate from cacti raising I'll move on to something new woohoo! lol
