Half bath floor help (PIP)

I'm going to do a full reno of the half bath, and I want to put down new tile floors.  I can't decide which of these two floors would be better though, and H is no help.

The all-white honeycomb I was thinking of doing with dark grout, the other with light.  H is worried it will look too washed out with white fixtures (hello new Toto) and a white floor.  I'm planning on painting the walls Wedgwood blue.

  • I love that honeycomb, but I have horrible vision so I can't see it with darker grout. HOWEVER, I think it has depth to it and will look great as is with blue walls.

  • SS - I vote choosing a larger tile for floor tile. Our bath has honeycomb tile and it is impossible to keep clean. It always looks dirty. I've had it professional cleaned twice and it still doesn't look right. So I vote for an option with less grout.

They had it with dark grout in a section of The Tile Shop (either that or it was just uniformly really dirty, sometimes it's hard to tell) and it looked amazing, gave it a nice definition.  Also, dark grout = not having to worry about keeping the grout as clean, haha.

Imspharmd - larger tile wouldn't really work.  The half bath is small (little less than 5x5), and the larger tile would make it look even smaller.  Plus, it's not really used that much - maybe once a week by us, and for company, which we don't have over very often.

  • We actually just did the honeycomb tile in one of our new baths. We used delorean gray grout, and our walls are a bluish gray (Behr's Prelude). We absolutely love it. Let me see if I can find a picture.

ETA: Here's a link to the thread where I shared our pictures. You can only see a bit of the floor, so let me know if you'd like any more pics.

I think the link didn't go through, there's none in your post.

  • That black and white looks dated to me.  My parents put that in their house when they built it in the mid-90's.

I like the honeycomb much better, although I agree with PP that a larger tile would be better.

I don't think a larger tile would make your bathroom look smaller.  I have two small bathrooms in my house (the hall bath and the 1/2 bath), and both of them have very large tile on the floor -- 18x18, I think (two different tiles), and they both look great.  Less grout = a good thing!!

Very nice!  Yes, definitely dark grout.  Smile
