I checked out Sak's last week and they had several of the Fashion Star pieces on display for sale. I was not impressed.
The skirt with the zip off piece weighed a lot due to the beading that they added, had very little curves to it, and the silver zippers just looked out of place. The sizing looked small and anyone that the skirt would fit would walk out of it with the weight pulling it down since it was a straight line. The plaid material on the pants and dress are gray, polyester with silver lurex threads going through the pattern. It looked even worse with the metallic threads. The weird tailed jacket for women was so wrinkled on the rack that I can't imagine packing it or wearing for anything without it looking like it was taken out of a space bag or slept in.
Every piece on display was 100% polyester and did not look like it should have the price tags it had. It looked so bad that I was thinking they were returns instead of things that had been sitting in the store. I don't think this show is going to last if the merchandise is this bad.
Re: Saw Sak's Fashion Star pieces in person

I really like seeing what Varvatos and Nicole have to say about the designs. they both seem to have good feedback. I think if it were quality merchandise and not rushed to the racks it could be good. PR has at least let people order stuff while they tweak for production. I was hoping it would be like that. I really want the show to get a revamp since it could be good. I don't think people would mind pre-order if it was for quality merchandise.
I saw a few Fashion Star pieces at Macy's and I thought they looked pretty good. I didn't really inspect them for quality since I wasn't planning on buying them, but I was actually surprised that they looked better than I was expecting.
I also saw the items at Saks and yes, what a letdown.
I think things might turn out better if the 3 stores they were competing to be sold in were of comparable price point. Trying to design to either be sold at Sak's or H&M to me doesn't make sense, the design is going to be sacrificed if you design for Sak's and end up being bought for H&M. I'm kinda surprised that they would use cheap fabric at Sak's though, that's disappointing.
ETA: I realize they probably wouldn't change the show format, because then the buyers are at competitor stores, as it is now they can co-exist since they are different price points. But it's still annoying to me.
