Where to go for inspiration?

I am looking for a website to get ideas on landscaping around my house in the backyard. Specifically a nice foundation bed to go on one side of my back patio. We have a walkout basement so the deck steps take up the other side. About the only thing I know is that I want a River Burch to be on the end of the bed.Basically looking for inspiration on bed shapes, and plants/flowers. Can anyone recommend their favorites? Thanks!

  • I usually hit magazine websites: Fine Gardening, Sunset, Martha Stewart, BHG. There's a lot of stuff on Pinterest.

What region are you in? My ideas in the Pacific NW might not translate too well for arid SW, for instance ;)

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
  • Go for lots of walks in different neighborhoods in your area armed with your camera.  The older neighborhoods are great because you can see what each plant will grow into and that way you can buy small and spend less. However brand new neighborhoods have lots of houses that have landscaped but have yet to put up their fences so you get a better view of their back yard landscaping. Just try to be overly obvious that you're taking pic's of plants so you don't freak people out. There are also local garden tours in most cities, check your chamber of commerce event calender. I know many landscape designers do this to show off their own handywork.
