Would either of these CL mirrors work in my guest room?

I know if I were a guest, one of the things that would bug me about our guest room is that there is no mirror.  (I notice because my room at my parents' house doesn't have one either, and I wish it did.)

There are two on CL right now.  My sense is that the larger mirror is very well priced, but might be too big for the room.  The smaller mirror is an ok price but not amazing.  I bought a mirror of the same size for our powder room for about $50, new.

This is the guest room decor:

Here's a couple old photos (of varying ages) to try to give you an idea of the space.  It's a small, difficult room to get into one picture.  There's 1 window, and the bed hasn't moved.

(I have given some thought to whether the bed would be better with the head under the window?)

And the mirrors:

If the answer is no, that's fine.  Honestly I can't figure out where the right place would be to PUT a mirror.  I just feel like there should be one.

I like the second one better.

If you 're meh on both of them, hold out for something better. Garage sale season is just around the corner!

  • I think you need a mirror, but I don't really like either of those.

Do you have a dresser in the room?  I just spraypainted an old one and leaned it on the dresser.

No, that's part of what makes adding a mirror so weird and difficult.  The room is tiny, and I'm not sure where I'd put a dresser that wouldn't just get in the way.

  • I don't think I like either of those mirrors in that space TBH.

In my odd little guestroom, I just hung a small mirror on a wall where the corner juts out. It's handy and available. If I were you I'd just go to Target and grab one for the time being.

  • I don't know where you would put one.

  • Could you maybe do a mirror with hooks below?  So they could hang things from the hooks?

Maybe put it just next to the door?  That seems like it might be a good drop spot.

What about a hanging over the back of the door full length mirror?

They are like $5 at Walmart.

I wish I had a better picture of the room.  The door is in a really narrow spot, because of how the closet juts out.

These are pictures from home inspection day:  In the first you can kind of see how there's a wall immediately on the left when you walk in the door.  (It's the side of the closet).  There's also a wall right behind the door (it doesn't open any wider as a result), so there's no real around the door space.

^On the bottom corner you can kind of see how the closet sticks out in the room.  The door's just out of the picture on the left.

I already have towel hooks over the back of the door, since there was no other good place for guests to put bath towels (the bathroom doesn't have any extra hooks or bars either).

    Sigh.  This room frustrates me.

  • I understand, both of my rooms growing up had the jut out closets by the doors.

Hmmm, what if you tried the bed across from the door then under the window?  See how that plays out space wise.

Like head of the bed under the window?

That's something I've considered doing.  Maybe I'll move it around and see how we like it.

I've also been surfing CL for a really slim profile bed frame or just a headboard to make it look a little more finished.  I think that might matter more if I put the head under the window.  A DIY headboard might be a possibility.

  • 1) The bed is in the best position according to the size of the room.

    2) The $50 dollar mirror will match better according to the closet door but looks a little too big while the $30 will look more presentable because of the size.

    3) I would NOT recommend  the cheep wall mart mirror because its low quality and your guest will probably wanna use a normal mirror at the end any way.

    4) I would try to hang the mirror opposite the entrance of the room on the right side of the window. Placing the mirror on the wall that has the boardwalk sign might not be so comfortable for the guest because its right against the bed and they would have every move being mirrored while in bed. (It really depends whose your guest but better safe then sorry)

PS. Have in mind to put in a clock in the guest room. This is some thing I always look out for when I'm a guest. Be once a guest with out a clock in the room and you'll know exactly what I mean!!!

  • Susie, I think I'd like to see a corner chest in the corner between the window and the monopoly photo.  Obviously this is a little froofy for you but you get the idea:

would work particularly well together with this:

My only concern is that it'd end up being end-table sized in order to fit, and then I'd have 2-3 end tables in the same small room -- the added one, one holding the table lamp, and a 3rd if I got night table for the other side of the bed, which I should do.

I think what ultimately needs to happen is that I need to get out some graph paper and try a few layouts.

The furniture layout was originally dictated by the location of the outlet that was on the wall switch.  (It's behind the head of the bed.)  I felt like a nightstand had to be right by it, with the lamp.

But now that the ceiling fan light is in, and that's just a regular outlet, I feel like I have a lot more freedom to re-arrange.

This weekend we have guests.  Maybe when I switch the sheets I can move things around and take some (better) pictures and report back.

    Already have one :)

  • Put one behind the door. Out of the way but still useful. But to be honest, I don't like either of the ones you posted.

The opinion of the mirrors is fair.  Although I'm not sure about behind the door.  I know the pictures I pip'ed are lousy, but the door's in an alcove that would mean you could only get like 3 feet away from the mirror at most, plus there's no good light in there.

Now that I am home, I can add some that are better:

See what I mean about the door area?  Kind of tight, and not well lit.

  • How about something like this on the right side of the window?

or this one? This one reminds me of the other two you have in the dining room.
