Embarrassing Confession

Wearing flats and walking so much lately, my feet/shoes are sometimes seriously stinky!!

Ick!

Any advice how to combat the smell?  Baking soda, some kind of odor eater insert, etc?

Re: Embarrassing Confession

  • I have some Privos that I stopped wearing for the same reason. Someones blog turned me onto the Dr. Scholls Odor X spray.  It actually works pretty well, I just spray my shoes and then let them 'dry' overnight and they've been wearable again.  I'm sure there's simpler home type remedies out there but this worked for me!

  • This sounds weird but put the shoes in a ziploc bag and put them in the freezer overnight.  They'll come out smelling fresh.

  • I just sprinkle the powder from Goldbond in my flats before I wear them.  It makes my feet feel cool and definitely helps with smell but don't put too much or your feet look powdery.

  • I put antiperspirant on my feet and alternate wearing my shoes (don't wear the same pair of flats 2 days in a row) to let them air out. here in Texas, we put antiperspirant everywhere! Big Smile

I do the same thing with baby powder and it really helps. The other tip I've heard is to fill a pair of old socks with baking soda and tie them off, then let them sit in your shoes overnight. It absorbs the smell just like when you use it in your fridge.

  • I have some really thin insoles made by Kiwi, I think, that help a lot. I ordered them on Amazon.
  • Thanks for posting this! I am traveling for work today & tomorrow and wearing the same pair of flats... They are going to be stinky by Friday night!!

  • Yay, lots of good (and easy) suggestions.  I'll have to try them out, thanks!
  • I have the stinkiest feet ever! Totally trying the baking soda in the old sock - great idea!

Yes, my Revas are one of the culprits!
  • I stick dryer sheets in mine
  • Fill a piece of hosiery with kitty litter and tie it off. Put them in your shoes that tend to smell when you aren't wearing them. Works like a charm!

This is my trick with my gym shoes!

  • Sometimes the odor is a function of glue and sizing used in the manufacture of the shoes reacting with moisture/bacteria. Wearing a wicking sock helps along with the other measures mentioned. Shoes should have a day off between wearings to dry out fully./
