Task Force to Look at FL Gun Laws
Gov. Rick Scott To Start Task Force Looking At Gun Law
Scott is set to announce the makeup of the group on Thursday
Florida Gov. Rick Scott is ready to have a state task force begin looking at Florida's gun laws.
Scott on Thursday will announce the makeup of a group that has been created in the wake of the death of teenager Trayvon Martin.
Martin was shot by
neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. Zimmerman, who has
maintained he acted in self-defense, was charged last week with
second-degree murder.
The task force, which will
be led by Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, is expected to hold public hearings
and come up with recommendations on citizen safety.
Scott has refused to say
whether Florida should repeal a seven-year-old law which eliminated a
person's duty to retreat when threatened with seriously bodily harm or
death. Scott said he thinks current laws have helped bring down crime.
