I received an invite to a baby shower.  I really dislike all showers (bridal and baby - it's just not my thing), plus this one is over an hour away.  And I don't really understand the location because who it's for lives about 15 minutes from me; her sisters are throwing the shower and the mom and sisters live close to me as well.  So I can't figure out the connection with the location.  It's not at a relative's house, but it's not a restaurant or hall either.  I can't even begin to describe what it is, but it's odd as a shower setting.

Anyway, since I GLW isn't throwing it (aka: the likelihood of wine is slim to none) I'm not going.  I'll send a gift and call it a day.

OK, this is a definite "no".  I was just on the site of where it's being hosted and found this:

3.	PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
	The Borough of xxx is pleased to offer meeting room facilities which are:
	Smoke - free
	Alcohol - free
	Pet - free
	and without unruly or loud behavior
	All Building Users are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.  Users who are unable to abide by these rules will be denied permission for future use of facilities within the building.

I don't blame you.   If the thing is an hour away, it has to be a really good friend or a really good party.      I would definitely just send a GC/card and call it a day!
