I'm sad to see Pat Summitt has officially stepped down, less than a year after the announcement of her disease.     I kind of hope nobody ever breaks her record, she is such a classy lady.    Thought of you when I heard the news.

"Summitt's career ends with a 1,098-208 record, 16 regular season Southeastern Conference championships and 16 SEC tournament titles. She also led the 1984 Olympic team to a gold medal."

Re: ***Conrad***

  • I think this is also worth noting about Summitt:

"Her impact reaches beyond wins and losses. Every Lady Vol player who has completed her eligibility at Tennessee has graduated, and 74 former players, assistants, graduate assistants, team managers and directors of basketball operations are currently among the coaching ranks at every level of basketball."

I remember one time seeing someone wearing a T-shirt that said:  "Tennessee-  where men are men and women are National Champions".        If I ever visit TN and see a shirt like that, I totally want one.

  • Oh sorry! I just now scrolled down enough to see this!

I am SO sad it has come to this. I was devastated when she was diagnosed, and to hear she's stepping down (while I totally understand), it's the end of an era. Now Holly is amazing and I think she'll do great. She's been under Pat as an assistant for 27 years and then she was also a player.

I'm also glad UT is going to keep her as "Coach Emeritus"

And it is awesome - every girl that has gone through her program has graduated. ALL of them have!

If you ever come to TN, you better look me up!!

  • Well of course I would let you know if I get up there!

I have no doubt she will remain close to the program as long as she can and I wish her many healthy days ahead.  I am sure she will have a statue on campus in the near future, she is just too important not to!    A dynasty is coming to an end, that's for sure.   I had just posted this to let you know I feel for you and the Tennessee nation on this loss, as a respectful sports fan.

    I appreciate it.

My father and I had season tickets and we went to all the home games from 7th grade up until I got married. I even went to the 1997 National Championship Game. That's a great memory!
