The most amazing thing here (not that the media reports it) is that Zimmerman is a registered Democrat.  Which means this board is crawling with people that killed a black teen by association!  I don't know how comfortable I am associating myself with that type of crowd.
while I appreciate what you're trying to do, Zimmerman is not a candidate for office.

Well, to be fair, neither is Santorum anymore.

Uh....Santorum isn't the only problem.  Bachmann just used the term "tar baby" and thinks you can pray the gay away.  Mitt Romney is suddenly pro-life and wants to pull federal funding from anything even remotely associated with abortion clinics. Every single abortion-limiting and/or banning issue to come up on ballots is suggested by a Republican. The Republican party is getting further and further right on social issues.  I don't think that can be argued by anybody.

Uh...no kidding.  Santorum was brought up in said thread.  Hence, the reference.

I'm just saying that Santorum isn't the problem, regardless of what was brought up in the thread.

Given that the linked thread is an Unpopular Opinion thread...

No, I don't think some of the things said there would be posted on this board by those posters. Sorry, Heather, but I don't see you coming in here and saying, "Republicans are all racist because they vote for people who are racist because most elected Republican officials are racist." Really, you'd have to have a brass set to do that. Granted, offending Bumpies is something else entirely!

LMAO.  You're right, it's totally different if it's not to our faces.

I assume you're refering to my last sentence. I don't think Heather intended for this board to read those comments, no. But I meant to imply that I also don't think she cares as much about what the Bumpies think of her and her opinion of them.

  • This as good a place as any, but until I posted on this board I always thought of myself as a commie pinko but there are many times that I feel like a moderate or even a conservative while perusing PCE and reading responses. It's kind of like bizarro-land for me that may or may not give me the occasional political identity crisis.

I would never have such poor, redundant wording, either. But given that my "home" board is 12-24, I don't have the Bump scorn some people have. Well, not as much. ;)

Blasphemy! How can people on The Bump be normal?! Stick out tongue

J/k, when I was on The Knot, people talked about the scary/crazy people on The Nest all the time. Yes, people on The Knot talked about how scary it was here.

Thank you! I might end up wearing the same seven things but I'm gonna give it a shot.

    I'm pro-choice, but I've got a big issue with pro-life = hatred and discrimination.

Hmm I feel like I missed something here, I don't remember reading this...

    I'm pro-choice, but I've got a big issue with pro-life = hatred and discrimination.

Pro-choice does not equal pro-abortion.  You can be pro-life and still be pro-choice. I know a lot of people who would never have an abortion, ever.  It would be absolutely repulsive to them.  But they also don't believe that their views should be inforced on everyone.  But I don't think people are saying that just because you're pro-life you hate black people and the gays and everyone else.  When you add it to being anti-gay, anti-immigration, etc...well then, people start to see a pattern.

ETA: You in the general term of the Republican party.  Not you in particular.

I don't necessarily see a pro life stance as hateful (although protesters can act that way) But I do see that stance as subordinating a cognizant woman's rights to a non-cognizant entity's rights. I thought the hateful talk in the op was related to gays and race, not pro life, though. At least originally.

For a pro-life person, abortion is murder.  So what you're positing above is that someone who is opposed to murder should be content to not commit it themselves, and should not work to outlaw it, lest they step on pro-murder folks toes.  I disagree.  And I don't think advocating that abortion should be outlawed is hateful or discriminatory in any way.  It's a legitimate viewpoint.  Not one I subscribe to, but one I can understand and respect.

But understanding and respect isn't really en vogue around here, is it?

but I am a Bumpie, and I posted there because it was linked here, knowing full well you'd read it. I wasn't talking about people behind their backs.

  • I am so confused. What just happened in here. I thought this was about how Ronald Reagan wasn't loved by both parties.

The post references in this thread is chockabock full of some "if you vote republican or are a member of the republican party, you are a woman hating, black people fearing, gay bashing douchebag who disgust open minded, kind, democrats who just want the world to be a better place.

Of course, we republicans/conservatives who post here shouldn't be offended by such talk nor worry our pretty little heads. Dems know what's best for women and we should just accept that.

you aren't the only one.  Just nobody tell my mom I would consider voting R for the right candidate.  She might disown me.

  • I for one would love to see this thread go from these few precious embers into a roaring all-consuming hellfire for the ages.

Hopefully you worded that right, or it will be too much of a bother.

  • Regardless of how this turns out, at least I know the batsignal is still working.  I'll make sure I turn it off for Earth Day.  It does take a TON of electricity the run this dusty ol' thing.
  • Thanks for this reminder of why I left.  I will now save a lot of time reading and walking rather than reading some dumbshit about how Republicans are crazy and stupid.  By the way, the Reagan threads are tired.  Turn the fuckingrecord over.
