Probably depends on if you're right handed of left.
Which side of your shoelace do you pick up first.
I do my belt buckle from the right, facing left and I am right handed.
That could be backass stupid but it was all I could think of
I am no fashion maven, so take my advice with a grain or two of salt, but ... I have one belt buckle which is not reversible (it's heart-shaped) and I start it to the left of my belly button and go around my back and when it comes back to the front it's to the right of my belly button.
I never realized how hard it is to describe wearing a belt!
