What do you wear to the Indy 500?
Lurker with a question: what does one wear to the Indy 500? Should I put any thought into this or is it just super casual all around? For what it's worth, we may end up in a suite, so I assume that would allow for something a bit less casual?
Re: What do you wear to the Indy 500?
I wear jeans and a cute tee with a sweatshirt for back-up, Hoosier weather is so unpredictable.
My family has an autoparts business interest so we go every year.
Plan for comfort. Two years ago, it was 85+, with the sun beating down at the track, it makes it hotter.
Now, last year, carb day, which is 3 days before the actual race was rainy and cold, like 45 degrees. But, the day of the race, it was a nice 70. It's never consistent.
For the love of God, do not wear heels.

I just wanted to second that sunscreen is a must. Also the suites aren't really all that fancy, some people are of course but for the most part they are still pretty casual. You'll most likely be doing a lot of walking so wear good shoes.
sunscreen.
My BIL was a track doc for years. He's treated a lot of sunburn and alcohol poisoning.
The few times I went, some of the women in the higher end venues dressed in "themed" outfits like black and white checkered pants or color-blocked dresses.
Oh and the locals refer to it as "the 500 hundred mile race" as if there were no others.
