Bottling Day

J and I have been making home brew beer for the last 4 or 5 years. The last time we did it though was back in 2009, before we got married. We had actually planned on giving out our own beer as a favor at the wedding but we ran out of time and would have had to make 2 or 3 batches.

We started a new batch a couple of weeks ago, and today we are bottling it.I am so excited to have our own brew to drink again...in 4 weeks!

Anyone else have any unique hobbies?

Re: Bottling Day

  • no unique hobbies for me, but just wanted to share that my BIL is a brewer.  He went to brew school in Chicago, is now the head brewer at a small micro-brew in Columbia, MO.  They did 2 brews at their wedding, gave out koozies that said "Something old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Brewed."

    What are you guys brewing?

  • DH has brewed beer a few times before. He even converted a deep freezer into a kegorator and even has a tap for a nitrogen set-up for stouts. He hasn't brewed anything in a while, though. He's also made mead (honey wine) which is amazing.

  • We brew as well- We usually do a batch every two months so we have stock. Pretty fun stuff. We also make our own wine from tomatoes. Yes I said tomatoes- they are a fruit and make a great white dry wine.  we currently have 15 gallons that will be bottled ready to drink this summer  (we mostly cook with it).

We can as well- usually stewed tomatoes, beans, pickle peppers, and jams. We want to do more but we run out of time usually.

  • Speaking of beer....

I totally had a dream last night that I was on Cupcake Wars, and my BIL (the brewer) was my assistant.  The event was the Great American Beer Festival (every year in October in Denver).  We killed it.  It was kind of an awesome dream, I'm not gonna lie.  lol.

That would be an awesome job! We are making a Honey Wheat at the moment. It smells so good already, I can't wait.

J is planning on making a honey mead next. Any tips?

We will be at the Brew Fest this year! We are moving to the Denver area next month.
