So Public Radio International gave Think Like A Man good reviews...
Re: So Public Radio International gave Think Like A Man good reviews...
I loved Something New. But it may be because as my husband and friends pointed out, I was EXACTLY like Sanaa Lathan. lol
ETA: Minus the boyfriend being white. But the list, the reaction to the spiderweb at the plant nursery, the fear of paint color, and dating a guy who was different from the Blair Underwood type is pretty consistent.
What I've learned from this thread is that I need to watch Bridesmaids.
I heart the Hangover like whoa, enough to want to watch all of it's sequels as long as Ken Jeong is in it. I love that guy. But I also liked Hot Tub Time Machine, if only for the hair and clothes and 80s references.
Red Tails was straight up trash...i'm actually mad at myself that i saw it
I'm excited about seeing Think Like a Man (i love kevin hart) with my oldest tomorrow, i almost fell out of my chair when i found out that, 1. Its actually showing in my neighborhood theater & 2. Its showing on two screens. Thats almost unheard of around here
Kevin Hart is in Think Like A Man? Oh I'm seeing that then. His stand up was hilarious! And what was that commercial he used to do that made me giggle? Now I don't even remember. Boo.
And yes, the second hangover's ending made me mad but not mad enough to regret watching it, even if it was the same jokes. They were funny. That is all.
Please watch Bridesmaids. That's shiit was funny.

Kevin Hart's standup is hi-freaking-larious! I love that tiny little man. The bit where he's picking up a chick and she asks about the car seat in back is one of my all time favorites.
I have dutifully moved Bridesmaids to the #2 stop on my queue, below the 70s Electric Company. lol
Love all the movie on the IMDB list but certainly not in that order...Color Purple should be in in anyones top 10.
So has Sofia Vergara lolol

I never saw Soul Plane. I just couldn't.
I seriously love her. She is on my list of celebs I would love to drink with. It's just her personality in movies like Meet the Browns.
I have a soft spot for Tyler Perry movies. I have seen them all, I think.
Hmm I was going to give Think Like a Man a pass because I didn't want to support Steve Harvey and that mess he wrote but maybe I'll think about going to see it.
I hated Bridesmaids and I didn't mind Red Tails minus the terrible acting job that Neo did. Lol perhaps I have no taste.
Love Jones is however my favorite movie of all time. I also lurved the soundtrack it is still on my iPhone playlist.
I saw it last night. I probably wouldn't have gone if I didn't have tickets to a private screening. I think that's probably less because I'm white and the cast is mostly black - Jerry Ferrara has a pretty big role - but because I rarely go the movies. I watch most of my movies on Netflix. Also I'm not a huge romantic comedy fan and the premise probably wouldn't interest me.
Think Like a Man would be funny for guys I think. In many ways it's a romantic comedy aimed at men. That said, it's neither hugely funny or very good. It's pretty predictable - aren't all romantic comedies, though? As these things go, it was ok, I guess.
I have a grudge against Death at a Funeral because it was a remake of a British film of the same exact name which came out like 6 years ago. And was pretty damn funny. And Americans usually really screw up British comedy.
Anyway, saying that this movie is better than that turd of a Zac Efron movie really doesn't make me want to run out and see it. Sorry. Traditionally anything released January-April kind of sucks. Back when I was seeing 50-60 movies a year, sure, I probably would have seen it. And I have friends who still do that and I trust their opinion for the most part, so I'll ask them about it. But these days I see about 5-10 movies in the theater a year, mostly during awards season, and then maybe a few over the summer, so it's just not on my high list.
There's a poster for it at the bus stop outside my office, though.

To clarify my insider comment--I feel like a lot of movie with either entirely or predominantly black casts are marketed as though they are an inside joke about black families (there seems to be a disproportionate number of church picnics featured.) So it just doesn't appeal to me with the limited number of movies I see.
I am surprised by how many of the best black movies I've seen. And shocked that Dolomite is on there--that is one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen.
It did seem like many of the movies on the list are widely popular--Glory, Color Purple, etc.
alright, alright, alright, alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You gone learn today!!!!!!!
I have to admit, this opinion offends me. I'm not sure why movies featuring black casts should downplay black cultural aspects for wider appeal or why it is presumed that featuring said aspects is a marketing tool for black audiences.
After all, you don't think there are cultural aspects to movies with all white casts that feature aspects black folks are less familiar with? Although, the truth of it is that we are familiar with them because they're in most movies even though we don't necessarily experience them in real life.
Well, except me. I am half white after all lol

Me too!!!!!!
Also, damn you all for glossing over Love & Basketball or The Best Man. I even watched The Wood or whatever just for Shemar.
I'd watch BookTv featuring the NYC phone directory for some Shemar Moore.

This is Cracked, so obviously take it as a comedy article, but I think it makes some interesting points about how movies with black casts are perceived by white audiences:
http://www.cracked.com/article_19549_5-old-timey-prejudices-that-still-show-up-in-every-movie_p2.html
I certainly don't mean to offend--I think there is every right for makers and studios to release those movies. They just don't appeal to me personally because I can't relate. I also don't feel drawn to movies aimed at teenagers either. And this may be the marketing more than the movies themselves. Most movies that look appealing to me I ultimately don't see anyway.
I can certainly appreciate that movies I like may have limited appeal for any variety of reasons.
I do most prefer documentaries on any topic.
Lurking butting in really, really late---please watch Seriously Funny. It's his best by far.
Just for your viewing pleasure:
Ok I just about died when the Google gave me a link to pics of Shemar naked. ::fans self heavily::
Someone please pass me some water.
ETA: Dammit I was trying to post a clean pic of him in a tank top and it's not working.
This is....interesting. Hm.
