Hotel Collection Towels & Macy's Sales

We're looking to get all new towels for the new bathroom and I remember reading lots of recommendations for the Hotel Collection towels at Macy's.  Our current towels are 5 years old from our wedding registry.  They are the most expensive towels at BB&B and we love them but after 5 years they are starting to become discolored and we want a different color for this bathroom.  So these new towels have some big shoes to fill.  I went to go look at the same towels at BB&B and they have gone up in price...a lot.  The Hotel Collection towels are cheaper even before sales/discounts.

So for those of you with Hotel Collection towels which line of towels do you have and do you like them?  Do you wish you had gotten a different line?

Also I don't ever shop at Macy's.  What is a good sale price to expect on towels?  They have a 25% sale starting next week but I'm guessing the best sales are their One Day sales they advertise right?  What % off are those usually and do they include the whole store?

Re: Hotel Collection Towels & Macy's Sales

  • The last time this was posted, I bought a bunch of their Hotel Collection towels.  We used one as a "test" and I returned the others.  The color was not as pictured, which I know is a risk of the computer monitor.  Overall, though, they were very fuzzy-feeling.  We may be weird in this respect, but my husband and I both like towels that are a little rougher and feel like they really dry you.  I went to HomeGoods and ended up getting Calvin Klein towels in the perfect color.  They have one side that's rougher and another that's softer...perfect.  :-)

  • The Macy's One Day sales are on selected items only (anywhere from 25-80%) off. Sometimes with an additional percentage of clearance items.

The 25% Friends & Family sale next week you are referencing includes all sale & clearance items.  It's also 10% off all furniture and electronics, which I think only happens during F&F.

  • DH & I are both suckers for super soft towels.  It's what we have now so we'd like to stick with that.  I wash them with no fabric softener so they stay nice and absorbent.  I just need ones that will hold up well in the wash, stay soft, and look good for years.  We're going to start with a few for this new bathroom and if we like them by the exact same ones for the master bath and get some spares.  We're going with all white so discoloration shouldn't be a problem and I can bleach them if necessary.

Dang!  How often are the One Day sales then?  Once a month?  Every other month?  Would it be unheard of to get +30% off on towels without having a Macy's card?  They only have a 15% off sale right now + the 15% with your Macy's card (but I don't have nor will I be getting one of those) and the sales lady was telling me that is the best sale they ever had.  I was like Hmm because she seemed hard up for a sale.

Do they ever have e-mail only deals?  Is is worth signing up for their e-mails?

  • Seems like they always have One Day sales, at the very least they're monthly. F&F is twice a year. I don't think you can do better than the F&F 25% unless they're included in a One Day sale or put on clearance (unlikely).

DH is a Macy's employee, so we always get 20% though. Cool

If you use a gift card/credit from cardpool.com, you can save a bit using that too.  I used that recently for our Hotel Collection sheets.  I waited for a linen sale (seems like they happen around once a month), I think I also Googled a promo code, and then I used the discounted gift card.  I think I ended up somewhere around 40-50% off the normal price for the sheets, but I don't really remember.  I think 25% is about the best I remember on linen sales there.  It seems like it's 15% off most of the time.

We do like the HC towels.  They are soft.  However, DH noted last weekend that they seem a bit stiffer these days, so I washed last week's set in vinegar/low soap/extra rinse.  It will be a week before that set comes up again in the rotation.  We have three sets and so I plan to do the same treatment on the other two sets as they go through the laundry rotation.  I'm hoping I've just oversoaped them over time and can get rid of the build-up.

We bought the Microcotton Luxe set (middle of the line).  I actually meant to buy the Finest Luxury towels after reading reviews, but I screwed up at the store (well, me + the associate who had no idea what her merchandise was or that they had different lines and did not have the Finest Luxury in stock).

  • Awesome thank you Amelia!  You lucky duck that's a big discount to get.  My sister works as an associate buyer and she only gets 10% off not including electronics.  I didn't know F&F was only twice a year.  I'll have to order them then.  (It's the 25th-30th for any lurkers reading this.)

So glad you chimed in Juno!  I knew you had these I just didn't know what lines.  The Luxe and the Finest were exactly the two I liked in person.  The Finest being my favorite of course but the two seemed pretty similar.  They were out of stock of almost all of the Finest line at our store too and the whole collection wasn't even marked!  How long have you had them now?

I'm going to check out cardpool right now.  Thanks!

I think we bought them last May.  They aren't objectively stiff by any means, just stiffer than the buttery softness they were when they were brand new.  Each towel has been laundered somewhere around 15 times.  They are still beautiful looking.  And they seem to soften up immediately after the initial use after laundering.

  • Perfect thanks.  I'm excited to get new towels!  Well more excited that our bathroom is getting to the point that we could use it and the new towels in it.  : )

I know exactly how you feel.  Those towels were my little present to myself for making it through 3 months without being able to bathe at my own house.

  • If they are on sale now and if you plan to buy in the store, you can ask the associate to do a "pre-sale" with the friends and family.  You would have to go back on Weds. when the friends and family actually starts to pick them up but you could pay for them now with the sale price and get the f&f discount.  I was actually just in Macy's today and this is what they did for me.

  • They are on sale online with an extra 15% off, no card needed, I think it equals out to more then 25% off.

  • We've had the Hotel Collection towels for years and honestly, I think they're just okay.  The colored ones really faded and look pretty crappy now.  The off-white ones we have had help up pretty well.

But my favorite towels by far are the Fieldcrest Luxury towels at Target.  They feel better, they're thicker, more absorbant, and CHEAPER!
