COCO Oil

Hi Ladies!!

I dont know if this has been discussed before, but i have been reading a lot about coconut oil and its many benefits.  Has anyone tried this?

I have to say I decided to give it a shot and have been using it the past few days and am loving it so far! I have dry/combo skin and it feels great. The best part is that it takes such a tiny amount, the jar will last me forever. I even had my bf try it after he shaved, he loved how it helped the aftershave burn better than his aftershave lotion.

Anyone else try this or think of trying it?

Re: COCO Oil

  • I love it. I use it on my face and body and it works fantastically, and it doesn't make my skin break out even though most creams I have used in the past HAVE to be oil free.

I just make sure it's virgin organic coconut oil to make sure it's nice and pure.

I didn't love it as a hair treatment though which I had heard raves about.

  • I'm the opposite of PP - I don't love it for my skin, but I'm pretty obsessed with it for my hair. I wash my hair everyday, so I put a bunch of coconut oil on when I go to bed at night. It helps keep it from drying out since I wash it so often, and also makes it crazy soft. My hair sucks if I don't do this, lol.

  • Does it matter if it's virgin vs. extra virgin coconut oil?

Where is the best place to buy this?

I've heard of putting this in your hair but does it make your hair super greasy (even after washing) or is it difficult to shampoo/rinse out of your hair?

I dont think so, as long as its virgin, and not anything with added processing etc. i bought mine at trader joes for $5.99. I believe it is just virgin. The important thing is that it is straight coco oil.

Where is the best place to buy this?

Trader Joes is where I bought mine, Im not sure where you live, so I would say health food stores in your area.

I have only tried it in my hair once, and didnt notice a difference, but maybe i didnt do it right. perhaps using it as a shampoo would be ok, but i have heard of putting a little bit on the ends of your hair after styling to help with dry ends...Im not too versed on that yet :)

I do know that from what i have researched it has great healing properties for dry skin, acne scars, excema, etc.

Let me know if you end up trying it, i have been using it for several days and love it so far! :)

    I don't think so.

I buy mine off of Amazon. $10 jar has lasted me 6 months so far, and I'm a little over halfway through it.

If it made my hair super greasy even after washing it, then I wouldn't use it. :) It depends on how much you put in. At night, before I go to bed, I put a ton in for it to soak in while I sleep. So yes, it looks pretty greasy then. If I'm using it during the day to tame flyaways, then I use a TIIINY bit, very tiny.

It isn't difficult for me to wash out of my hair in the mornings.

    HTH!
