A South Jersey school district will no longer call on a 40-year-old substitute teacher who is accused of telling a 7-year-old girl she was ?too sexy? for gym class.
On Monday, the second-grader at Charles Spragg Elementary School told another teacher about the alleged comment and then told her father.
Henry Wilson says his daughter was in line that day with all the other kids for gym class and "when it came to my daughter in line, he said, 'You are too sexy for gym today.'"
Wilson says he doesn't know the teacher (who we are not identifying because he has not been charged) and says, "I don't know what context he meant to say it, but he said it, which is completely inappropriate."
The school guidance counselor confronted the substitute teacher, according to Egg Harbor School Superintendent, John Gilly, and the teacher denied using the term "sexy."
"He stated to the guidance counselor that he used the term 'cute,'" Gilly says.
Gilly says when he talked to the substitute teacher, the teacher denied making any comment at all to the child.
Wilson showed NBC10 the outfit he says hisdaughter wore the day in question. It's pictured on the right.
Gilly tells NBC10 that in December, another parent pulled the same substitute teacher aside after a student complained about him cursing.
"They said, 'You may want to address this individual with what he's saying in front of the children, it's absolutely inappropriate."
The teacher received a verbal warning.
The little girl's father filed a harassment complaint against the teacher. He says he wants this on the teacher's record.
The teacher has been suspended, according to the school district.
NBC10 was unable to reach the teacher for comment.
Re: 7 year old Too Sexy for Gym class
I can see telling a kid their outfit is inappropriate but too sexy is not something I can buy into.
Edited to add: I'm not saying this outfit is inappropriate.
