quality clothes that stands the test of time?

Where can I find such clothes?!

It seems to me that lately I can't find decent pieces that hold up for more than one season/year. Since I don't go for trendy clothes, I'm in desperate need of basics (cardigans, good fitting jeans, etc.) that will last and not go out of style. Should I splurge on cashmere?

Any ideas, suggestions (brands, stores, types of fabrics) is greatly appreciated!!

Re: quality clothes that stands the test of time?

  • We have this convo often here and the general consensus is that in the last year or so the quality of even "more" respectable brands has gone down and wears as quickly as cheaper pieces. I used to only buy J Crew tees and cardigans, but in the last year, 3 pieces that I've bought from there have developed holes or loose seams within 5 or so washings. I'm over it and have bought my staples at Target or the clearance racks and have been very pleased so far.

  • I bought several pieces from White House Black Market and they hold up very well, and are always "in style" because they're classic. They also have some trendier stuff too if interested, and I think their clothes flatter me the most.
  • I shop White House Black Market. The clothes look and feel high quality.

Lurker here but I totally agree with this.

  • The only tee I've been super impressed with is James Perse. Pricey, but doesn't pill or lose shape. I've officially given up on LOFT and AT. I've been trying to buy the majority of my clothes at Nordstrom lately because their return policy is generous. If something doesn't hold up, they've always taken it back, no questions asked, which makes investing in pricey jeans, etc. worth it.

  • Like the PP, I have started to mostly buy everything at Nordstrom.  Their customer service cannot be beat, so I don't mind paying the prices there.  I've also been really impressed with their Caslon brand knit tops.  I have several from the past year or so, and they have all held up very well.  For the price, I really haven't found anything better than Caslon, honestly.
