Good evening!
My husband and I have been married for about two years and are starting the process of purchasing our first home. We looked casually for awhile, but finally went ahead and officially started this week. We know that we want to go through the VA/USAA and went ahead and got a mortgage pre-approval. They are going to send us the name of one of their recommended agents in a day or so to start looking at homes.
I don't know really anything about this whole process and am trying to learn as much as possible so we don't find ourselves looking at houses and not knowing what to ask! I look forward to learning from you.

Re: Intro
We are 10 days from closing on our house with a VA loan. We went with a recommended agent rather than one USAA recommended, but I think you'll get money back from USAA if you use their person.
Also, we have only heard bad things about USAA's mortgage department, so even though we were pre-approved through them we went with a local lender who is very knowledgeable about VA loans. So far it has been smooth sailing (knock on wood, LOL).
Thanks for that heads up! We've only heard good things so far, and they are awesome for us for banking so I thought we were just getting really lucky. I'll do some more digging to find out more about them. They do have a money back program, but it isn't a huge amount so I'm not sure that it'd be enough to convince me to stick around if all the reviews are bad.
Good luck on your closing!I don't remember if I read it on here or somewhere else, but I have read that within the last couple months USAA has gotten a lot better in their mortgage department. Our agent was really against us using USAA or Navy Federal and after I researched the company she wanted us to use I was sold.
We use them for everything else and were all set to go with them for our mortgage until our agent said something.
Good to hear! Thanks!
Thanks! I wonder if it is something to do with where you live that you may end up with crappy agents. The reviews online did have some that said the agents were really apathetic. We're still waiting one to call us, so I guess we'll see how it goes!
