Dog playing with poop...

I read the post below with suggestions about dogs eating poop and my vet suggested most of those things already but they haven't worked. After my chihuahua got spayed three months ago she has been constantly eating/playing with her poop. She was trained to go potty outside but after the surgery she started going #2 indoors. She will play with it in her bed, chew it up and spit it out all over the kitchen floors, step in it, sleep with it,  etc. This is becoming a several day frequent occurrence. I am at the point of having to mop the floors daily and spot clean several times a day. She is let out every hour and a half or so and is walked multiple times daily. With all that said, I had a c-section three weeks ago and am still in quite a bit of pain. The daily process of bending down and cleaning up these messes is trying on my body. She has tons of toys and gets tons of love and attention--though the vet suggested she might be bored. I'm not sure how boring life can honestly be to play with poop but that's just me >.>

So, with all that said... I'm sure that she's eating her poop to some extent, but, more or less she seems to be playing with it. I'll find random half-chewed/crumb poops everywhere in her little area (she has a dog bed, blankets, and toys) and then there will also be multiple other chewed poops wherever she pleases on leaving them in the kitchen. Does anyone have suggestions as to why she is doing this and how I can prevent it/stop it from happening? DH is getting fed up and threatening to send her to a new home but that won't fly in my book. So, thoughts/suggestions? Thanks all.

Re: Dog playing with poop...

  • I've heard that feeding your dog pineapple will make the poop unappetizing to them and they will leave it alone.

Does she have enough toys and bones to keep her busy while you're not paying attention to her?

If you can catch her in the act of pooping in the house and can correct the behavior that might help stop it.

So sorry you're going through this. I hope this helps.
