Help me pick a paint color

We have to decide on a paint color for our new build tomorrow and I'm having a hard time figuring out what shade. It's hard to pick from just a tiny swatch. I want to do beige throughout (and I may paint some accent walls separately after we move in). I'm nervous because I painted our current place myself and bought a beige that looked great on the swatch but dried looking yellow and I'm a bit worried about that. I also don't want it looking too dark. Can I get some opinions on a good neutral beige from the pic below:

Re: Help me pick a paint color

  • Since the colors are from Sherwin Williams, I would go to their website and play around with the color visualizer tool.  It isn't entirely accurate, but unless your monitor settings are way off, it will give you an idea of the colors and you can see them in a room setting.  Also, you can see which colors are more yellow, etc..
  • I personally like either "masterpiece tan" or "tobacco road". The others have pink-ish undertones to me.

Sundew seems to have some yellow tones and if you are concerned about a yellow looked I would stay away from that.

Can you ask your builder which colors they most often use? We are in the midst of selecting colors for our new build as well and our builder wife was able to give us a list of some of the most common colors. She was also able to suggest colors in different hues when we asked.

  • I like "Favorite Tan" the best.  That's so many to pick from!
  • I think it's so hard to find a one-size-fits-all color that will look good in an entire house, especially without being able to see it in the house.  That said, we have Ramie in three rooms in our house and like it a lot.  The undertones are almost greenish, which I like a lot because I despise pink-beige.

  • I like Tobacco Road.
  • We just had a good portion of our house painted Kilim Beige and I think it's way too light.  DH says once we add in all of the accents (curtains, more furniture, etc.) it won't seem so light, but I thought it was too light from the very beginning.  I like the deeper shades- Tobacco Road and Sienna Sand
